Pharmaceutical group Chiesi partnered with Board of Innovation to prototype an AI ideation engine for two priority disease areas. BOI’s June 2025 case describes a pilot that explored how scientific and market signals could inform new healthcare concepts. BOI’s Chiesi case
The engine gathered insights, developed ideas and prioritized concepts for validation and internal handoff. BOI reports reviewing more than 500 data points simultaneously and moving from five concepts in a week to 23 concepts in an hour. It characterizes the result as 115× faster ideation.
Fabrizio Conicella, Chiesi’s vice president of its Center of Open Innovation, described the pilot as a new ability to identify and prioritize ideas aligned with the company’s longer-term innovation goals. In the case account, Chiesi was exploring expansion into additional therapeutic areas and broader portfolio planning.
The reported speed gain concerns early idea generation and concept development. The concepts still needed further validation; the case does not establish faster clinical development or improved patient outcomes. Its immediate value was giving the innovation team more developed possibilities to assess before committing further resources.
