AI’s Trust Gap Is Killing Growth
Half of U.S. executives use ChatGPT, Bard, or Copilot every week, yet 40% admit they do not fully trust the answers.
The moment of truth
Half of U.S. executives use ChatGPT, Bard, or Copilot every week, yet 40% admit they do not fully trust the answers. That tension drags on every commercial growth target you own.
Prosper data that should rewrite your playbook
Why you can bank on these numbers. Prosper Insights & Analytics has surveyed more than 8,000 U.S. adults every month for two decades and supplies zero-party consumer intelligence to Fortune 500 brands, Wall Street analysts, and leading universities. The June 2025 wave focused on GenAI adoption, tapping 7,880 adults and oversampling business owners and corporate leaders to show what the C-suite is actually doing, not just saying.
Usage is executive-led: 50.2% of leaders and 43.6% of owners work with GenAI, compared with 33.5% of everyone else.
Tasks are still tactical: research 51.3%, writing help 35.4%, and upskilling 23.8%.
Trust is the fail point: 40.4% worry about hallucinations, 58.1% fear data misuse, rising to 84.8% among business owners.
Culture is fragile: one-third fear job loss and one-fifth cite bias.
Ignore these signals, and your pilots stay parked in demo mode.
Four plays that convert anxiety into measurable growth
1 | Match model to mission, know what engine you’re driving: Plenty of leaders fire up 4o inside Copilot or ChatGPT and assume they’re using the best there is, never realizing the reasoning engine under the hood. For quick ideation, that’s fine. But the moment real dollars hang in the balance, shift to a higher-grade, retrieval-augmented model such as ChatGPT o3 or o3 Pro (+ Deep Research for extra firepower). Top-tier engines cut hallucinations, surface live citations, and sail through Legal, Regulatory, and Sales Ops with far fewer redlines. The lesson: premium output starts with a premium model.
2 | Run the three-question gut check: Every AI output must answer: What source backs this claim? How fresh is the data? Where could this break? Tighten citations, dates, and margin math until you would stake your quota on it.
3 | Flip job-loss fear into capacity fuel: Prosper flags the anxiety. As a leader, you need to reframe hours into upside: “AI freed 1,800 analyst hours, and we’re reinvesting that time into next-quarter price-pack architecture.” Show how that's impacting your own work as well. Faster strategy cycle time, more time in execution. Capacity excites, pink slips paralyze.
4 | Aim every pilot at revenue. Research and copy are table stakes. Point GenAI at levers that touch price, margin, share, or velocity, and then measure the lift. If a test can’t move the P&L, scrap it.
From test to transformation: five steps, one clear line to revenue
Call the play. Zero in on a revenue moment worth the lift: rebuild your promo mix with live culture shifts, map a white-space flavor platform for next year’s launch slate, or refresh the three-year growth strategy.
Load the AI stack to match the job:
o3 Pro + Deep Research drafts input for updated strategy.
Nichefire pulse wires in live culture.
Ai Palette radar plugs in the next ingredient trend.
StoryTap clips add shopper proof that converts.
FifthRow autopilot strategic consulting, packing outputs into sourced, board-ready playbooks in minutes.
Run the gut check:
Source: Where did the claim come from?
Freshness: Is the data up-to-date?
Failure mode: If it’s wrong, how would it fail...out-of-context stat, sample bias, hallucination, outdated market shift?
Score what matters. Track hours saved, dollars gained, and decisions sped up. If the numbers don’t beat the control, kill it fast.
Lock and scale. Turn the win into policy, budget, and a queue of next use cases so AI becomes a compounding growth engine, not a string of pilots.
GenAI has moved from shiny toy to strategic operating layer. The leaders who build trust as quickly as they build prototypes, and wire every pilot to commercial value, will lap the field. Prosper’s data shows the window is wide open. Your move.
